Welcome to class 9

The Year 5 Class teacher is Mr Raine

The Learning Support Assistant is Mrs Cunningham

Routines

The children are welcome in school from 8.40am each day. Having put their things away in the cloakroom and classroom independently, the children will then complete an early morning task at their tables. Registration is at 9.00am. The school day finishes at 3.20pm. No formal arrangements for the end of the day are in place for collection of children in Year 6. However, if your child walks home alone, please ensure that written permission is provided.

Equipment

Your child will need to bring a named water bottle to school each day to ensure they stay hydrated and a healthy snack for break time. They will also need to wear their PE kit to school every PE day. Our class PE days are Tuesday & Wednesday.

Homework

Homework will be set every Friday. It is to be returned to school by the following Wednesday. KS2 children will receive Maths and English homework each week.

Children are also expected to read 5x each week for at least 10 minutes. We will check reading diaries at least 3x a week. Please bring reading books in every day as they will not always be changed on a set day. It is imperative that your child reads the scheme books provided by school. This is to support both their comprehension skills and their vocabulary acquisition. If they are a keen reader and wish to read other books alongside their school book please note this in their reading diary too. We welcome these books in school each day, in addition to their scheme book.

E Safety

The safe use of the internet is a main priority in our school and it is our aim to provide children with knowledge and skills for them to use the internet safely.

Within school we will be teaching them about safe and appropriate use of the internet.

It is the responsibility of parents/carers to ensure that children are using the internet in an appropriate manner at home.

We would expect our younger learners to only be using the internet with a responsible adult.  As they move through KS2 they will begin to use it more independently but always with an adult aware of what they are doing.

The following website offers way in which to keep your children safe online:

Volunteers

Volunteers are very welcome in school. Opportunities range from reading with children, gardening, support on trips etc. If you are interested please speak to the class teacher or the school office.

FIS

Friends of Ilchester School is our highly valued PTA. They run a range of events throughout the school year to raise money for various enrichment activities and resources for your children. They meet the first Thursday of every month and are always eager to welcome new volunteers.

Communication

The link between home and school is a vital one. Please do not hesitate to come and talk to us regarding your child; we will always arrange a time for this. It is important that you make us aware of any changes at home e.g. medical, family circumstances etc. so we can best support your child.

A Final Plea…

PLEASE NAME EVERYTHING!!!
