Welcome to Class 5
Your child’s Class Teacher is Miss Waterfield.
The Learning Support Assistant is Mrs Carey. Miss Bray also works in Class 5 as a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant.
Routines
The children are welcome in school from 8.45am each day to complete an early morning task in the classroom. Parents are to drop off children at the corridor door where they will be met by a member of staff and then make their way into their own classroom. Registration is at 9.00 am. The school day finishes at 3.15pm.
If your child is going to be collected by someone other than yourselves, you must inform the class teacher. Each class does have an ‘alternative home collection’ board in the classroom. Please let the member of staff on the door know and they will pass the message on or if something crops up during the day please phone the school office and they will get a message to us.
Equipment
Your child will need to bring a named water bottle to school each day to ensure they stay hydrated (please note that squash is only allowed at lunchtime). Your child's book bag also needs to be brought into school each day.
PE
Our class PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. Children should come to school dressed in their PE kit and school jumper/cardigan on the days that they have PE lessons.
Homework
Homework will be set every Friday and you will receive a ParentMail letting you know which pages are to be completed. It is to be returned to school by the following Wednesday. Children in KS1 will receive alternate Maths and English homework each week.
Children are also expected to read 5x each week. We are continuing to use the phonic decodable texts. We also read these in school during the week. Books are given out on a Monday and collected back in on a Friday. Gradually children will move onto scheme books which will be changed as and when required. It is imperative that your child reads the phonic / scheme books provided by school. This is to support both their comprehension skills and their vocabulary acquisition. Reading for pleasure is something we want to encourage so please read / share other books alongside their school book, such as their library books, please note this in their reading diary too.
Please make sure their book bag is in school every day.
Library
The children will visit the library every other Friday. They can choose a book for reading / sharing pleasure at home. It should be returned in time for the next library visit. We are very fortunate to have a great library at the Juniors that we all use; please could you encourage your children to look after the books.
E Safety
The safe use of the internet is a main priority in our school and it is our aim to provide children with knowledge and skills for them to use the internet safely. Within school we will be teaching them about safe and appropriate use of the internet.
It is the responsibility of parents/carers to ensure that children are using the internet in an appropriate manner at home.
We would expect our younger learners to only be using the internet with a responsible adult.

Volunteers
Volunteers are very welcome in school. Opportunities range from reading with children, gardening, support on trips etc. If you are interested please speak to the class teacher or the school office.
Communication
The link between home and school is a vital one. Please do not hesitate to come and talk to us regarding your child and we will always arrange a time to talk. It is important that you make us aware of any changes at home e.g. medical, family circumstances etc so we can best support your child.
Extra information
Please do not bring in toys or possessions unless it is a special achievement that has just been awarded eg a medal for gymnastics.
All children should have a book bag for their reading book. Please bring book bags to school each day and put them in the large clear box near my cupboard. It is important books are in every day in case we want to read with your child.
