EAL - English as an Additional Language
At Ilchester Community Primary, we are dedicated to supporting students who are learning English as an Additional Language (EAL). Our EAL program is designed to help these students develop their English language skills, ensuring they can fully participate in all aspects of school life. The purpose of our EAL program is to:
- Facilitate Language Acquisition: Provide targeted instruction to help students improve their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in English.
- Promote Academic Success: Ensure that EAL students have the language support they need to access the curriculum and achieve their academic potential.
- Encourage Social Integration: Help students build confidence in using English in social settings, fostering friendships and a sense of belonging within the school community.
- Support Cultural Diversity: Celebrate the diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds of our students, promoting an inclusive and respectful school environment.
- Engage Families: Work closely with parents and guardians to support their child’s language development and provide resources to assist with learning at home.
