This Week in Class 10: Mantle, Magma and Mothers

This week in Class 10, we have been continuing to learn about the planet on which we live and the different religions and cultures that flourish upon it.

Volcanoes!

Following on from our introductory experiments on Tuesday, today we started to learn about the make-up of our amazing planet through learning about the four layers on the Earth: inner core, outer core, mantle, and crust.

After learning what these layers are, we worked in groups to construct a plasticine model of the Earth’s layers, before finally cutting it in half to reveal and label them.

Divine Mothers

In RE this week, we learned about the Hindu festival of Navratri: the harvest-time celebration of good over evil, and the worship of the three goddesses Durga, Lakshmi, and Saraswati.

We learned about the different aspects of motherhood that the three can each be said to represent and applied that to our own understanding of our own mothers, and other mothers across the animal kingdom.
