What do we do and what are our responsibilities?
We have 3 main roles:
We help set aims for the school, agree policies and targets and then we monitor and evaluate the impact of the policies and changes to help improve our school. We look at the curriculum, equality, policies, finance, premises, reports, safeguarding, standards and staffing.
Support & Challenge
We support the Headteacher and Staff. We ask relevant questions and seek information and comment on proposals. We plan improvements and evaluate the impact of these.
We hold the Headteacher and Staff to account for the performance of the school. We are accountable to parents and others for the work of the governing body.
This year our key priorities are: Maths, Assessment, Vulnerable Children and Leadership Roles.
How do we do it?
Ilchester Board of Governors are volunteers who are parents of children in school, friends within the local community, teachers and support staff. We meet as a full board six times per year. We all serve on one of the two committees; Education & Personnel or Business. The committees also meet six times per year. We also have dedicated Governors for Special Educational Needs, Safeguarding, Health & Safety, Training and Child Protection.
Who are we and how to contact us?
You can write to us at school: Ilchester School, Somerton Road, Ilchester, Yeovil, Somerset BA22 8JL or email the Chair of Governors.

I have two lively children at Ilchester School and have been a school governor here and in Plymouth for four years. I work as a Dentist in General Practice and will be returning to a teaching role at Bristol Dental School from January 2016 following the birth of my 3rd child. When time permits my hobbies include being involved in local community activities, running, swimming and baking.
Carolyn Rouse (Vice Chair of Governors)
My 3 children all had a fantastic time at Ilchester School and I became a governor as I wanted to make a positive contribution to such a great school. I am a graphic and web designer and have an MSc in Computer Science. I have worked in London, the States and Canada and now enjoy working in Somerset. My spare time involves ferrying children to and from sporting activities and walking our labradoodle, Florence.
Bruce Faulkner (Chair of Education & Personnel Committee)
I am Rector for the parishes of Ilchester, Northover, Limington, Yeovilton and Podimore and attached to the Chaplaincy at RNAS Yeovilton. I am married to Ann, a music teacher, and have two teenage boys at Huish Academy. I have been a governor for the best part of seven years. I drive a little red car, come and take assemblies at school, love Northern Soul and Two Tone, support Arsenal FC and Bath RFC, am an avid photographer and before I became a priest I was a watchmaker and worked in computing for IBM. If I had a bucket list it would have on it the opportunity to do some ‘air to air’ photography.
Nick Almond (Chair of Business Committee)

I live on Broadsword Park with my husband, but am originally from the Midlands. I work near Bath at a small consultancy company and in my free time I run a local netball club. Alongside this, I enjoy keeping active, seeing friends and exploring new places.

I work for AgustaWestland in Yeovil and have primarily been involved in the business side of the governing body’s responsibility (finance, buildings and ICT).
